Core Competency

Our core competency is the manufacturing of special indexable inserts and the regrinding and remanufacturing of the same for the largest OEM and Tier 1 manufacturers and suppliers in Mexico.

Regrind Process

Regrinding, remanufacturing and retipping used cutting tools is an excellent method to save thousands of dollars in tooling costs each year. We will work with you hand in hand to plan, develop and craft a program perfect for your needs.

Through our proprietary design and engineering process, Sierra delivers cost savings of 50% or more over the cost of new coated or uncoated inserts, with little to no loss in tool life, resulting in reductions in CPU on average 70%.

All remanufactured tools adhere to the same systematic and rigorous quality control processes as any newly manufactured product, ensuring that only the best products, meeting exact tolerances, are delivered to our customers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What materials can you rectify or remanufacture?

    • Carbide
    • Ceramic
    • CBN
    • PCD (retip)
    • WL-20
    • HSS
  • What geometries can you rectify or remanufacture?
    • We can remanufacture a wide range of geometries, including many inserts with pre-molded chipbreakers.
  • Will we get the same tool life as if we used new inserts?
    • Yes. The insert is the same original material; Sierra is simply changing the dimensions of the insert (e.g. shorter, thinner, etc.) as needed.
  • How can we identify a remanufactured tool from a new tool?
    • There are several ways we can help in that regard. We suggest you mark, and we can package and code your internal tool number with "R" suffix for resharpening/remanufacturing. Additionally, we can coat, engrave or mark your inserts, which would also help identify the inserts when sorting them for remanufacturing.
  • Do remanufactured inserts vary from batch to batch?
    • No. At Sierra, we segregate and inspect each lot to exact dimensions and tolerances. We treat remanufactured inserts the same as new ones.
  • Are remanufactured inserts held to the same tolerance as new ones?
    • Yes, Sierra remanufactured inserts are manufactured to standard tolerances.
  • Will Sierra include an inspection report with each batch?
    • Yes.
  • Will we have to adjust our machines?
    • It will depend. However, this will only be necessary for the initial setup, which takes minimal time.
  • Will we have to change speeds and feeds?
    • No.
  • Will we have fastening problems?
    • That too depends. Sierra, however, can supply specialized seats or tool holders to compensate.
